Bulgaria won the World competition for green architecture
15.02.2011
The Bulgarian Students Nikola Encehv and Stefan Vankov won the award for green building design in the category "Students" World Competition Design Against the Elements 2010 ("Design elements for 2010"), which was held in Manila, said organizers of the Bulgarian participation. The project of two students in architecture was awarded as the best ecological solution among participating students from around the world.
“Design against the elements” - typhoons, earthquakes, floods, is an international competition for sustainable disaster architecture. He collects architectural solutions from around the world to help poor populations in countries most affected by climate change. Assignment of the competition is to produce designs for housing for the poor (up to $ 8,000 per apartment for 4 people from 32 to 36 square meters) that are resistant to disasters.
"The need for this competition are determined by the fact that climate change leads to an increasing risk to countries like the Philippines and 44% of the population in the zone of constant danger and poverty forces them to live in places with small resistance to natural disasters. One of the aims of the competition is people in the community can spend your money on things other than correcting the huts, "said 21-year-old Nicola Enchev third year student in the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University in Britain.
"I hope the successful projects in the competition to be realized, and more parties to follow the example of the Philippines in such initiatives," he added. Nikola and Stefan Enchev Vankov rely on the integration of technologies that achieve a good price in construction and easy construction of its parts. The design combines two basic materials - bamboo - one of the most common and cheap clean in Asia, and concrete.
The main feature in the design of the project is to use the hexagon as a basic geometric unit. On the residential level, this creates a feeling of spaciousness, and the scale of urban development - an ideal solution for dealing with uneven hilly terrain. Due to radial internal distribution and external bamboo facade, each apartment is the optimum orientation - the interior is always protected from the sun.
